Founded in 2017 by licensed social worker Abongile Khwaza and co-founded by marketing specialist Sinesipo Sibuta, Help A Girl began as a grassroots campaign to restore dignity through the simple yet powerful act of providing sanitary pads. Today, it has grown into a nationwide youth empowerment movement, built on three pillars:
Menstrual Health & Dignity
Educational Access
Personal Development
Every month, thousands of girls across South Africa miss school because they can’t afford sanitary products. This is more than a health issue; it’s an educational crisis. Falling behind academically leads to long-term disadvantages and limits future opportunities. We are here to change that narrative by replacing shame with knowledge, inaccessibility with opportunity, and silence with bold, confident voices.
Through the support of generous individuals, businesses, and partner organizations, Help A Girl has created a powerful impact in communities across the country.
Distributed over 200,000 sanitary pads to girls in rural and township schools.
Hosted 10+ annual career fairs, connecting youth with colleges, skills training, and professionals across sectors.
Facilitated interactive workshops on puberty, menstrual health, and self-esteem.
Conducted goal-setting & vision board sessions to encourage long-term personal planning.
Launched the Youth Spotlight Series, an IG Live platform connecting youth with South Africans thriving in both traditional and nontraditional careers.
Supported Grade 12 learners by helping them apply to higher education institutions — stepping in where guidance counselors or resources are limited.
Whether it’s a sanitary pad, a workshop, or a word of encouragement, every effort helps girls see beyond their circumstances and move toward their full potential.
We envision a South Africa where every girl completes her education, lives with dignity, and boldly pursues her goals free from the limitations of poverty, shame, or silence. We are not just raising awareness.
We are raising the next generation of confident, capable young leaders.
